Awareness

The awareness guidelines of PROGR also apply to the Jazzwerkstatt.

This means that the following applies to all Jazzwerkstatt events:

  • No racism
  • No sexual violence
  • No queerphobia
  • No ableism
  • No verbal, physical, psychological or emotional violence

You can find more information about our key values and the meaning of awareness at awareness.progr.ch. This is also a place where you can report an incident, give feedback and contact us regarding awareness.

What is awareness?

“To be aware” means to be mindful. What kind of room am I in? Who are the people around me? How am I and others experiencing the mood? How can I contribute to a respectful coexistence? These questions should be asked by everyone who visits the Jazzwerkstatt and PROGR.

One should be aware of possible infringements of others’ boundaries — verbal, physical, psychological and/or emotional. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual harassment, sexual violence, insults, and discriminatory behavior of any kind. The awareness practiced at PROGR is based on the following three principles:

1. Consensus

People interact with mutual consent and active agreement. This requires communication. The principle of “only yes means yes” applies.

2. Power of definition

The affected person is in a position to define when discrimination or boundary crossing is occurring for that person.

2. Partiality

Building on the power of definition, a boundary violation is recognized as such and the perception of the affected person is not questioned. It also means standing up for the view and demands of the affected person and showing solidarity.
