SARAH CHAKSAD QUINTET

20:00 – Turnhalle

Photo: Laura Pleifer

Sarah Chaksad opens the series of concerts at the PROGR Bern with a première. Sarah has gathered around herself a band that shares and embodies a love of free musical expression, improvisation and the Persian musical tradition. After the death of her Iranian father a few years ago temporarily severed her ties with Iran, Sarah returned to her roots through music. The timbre of the Persian folk music instrument Kamancheh, Sarah’s compositions, and five wonderful musicians join together to build new bridges.

THE HATCH

21:15 – Turnhalle

Mette Rasmussen and Julien Desprez are usually on tour and, when the stars align, they are sometimes on tour together. The Hatch is a dual force of nature. The fortunate ear-witnesses are left in awe and delight. A sonic solar eclipse.

ROH*

22:30 – Turnhalle

Photo: Beni Suppiger

Singer Vera Baumann and double bassist Johanna Pärli wallow in bright forests and thick poetry volumes. They weave together lines of contemporary verse with poetic melodies to create archaic songs. roh* dig up sounds of pine cones, stones and shards of clay, which they entwine with their earthy improvisations. In doing so, they open up new, vast soundscapes for the listener and at the same time celebrate the incredible intimacy of string, voice and word.
