20:00 GYRE
At the Jazzwerkstatt in 2018, Flo Hufschmid heard a concert of Gnawa music by the Moroccan group Asmâa Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou. During the hour-long set, the band played no more than a handful of basic rhythms…but they were in ceaseless motion, varying minimally, wobbling, getting faster and slower. The flowing, subtle variations drew Flo in and never let go of him. He has pursued meditative physicality, rather than a specific style, in the music he makes with his band GYRE ever since.

21:15 Uneven Same
The quartet Uneven Same plays its way through disparate worlds of timbre and volume with directness, power, and ease. Individual sound is placed fully in the service of the whole texture. The egalitarian interplay of saxophones dominates their energetic but refined performances. Since its inception in the spring of 2021 the group has quickly developed a unique band sound. At this year’s Jazzwerkstatt, Uneven Same will play works by the composer and saxophonist Thomas K.J. Mejer.

22:30 Wildbrush feat. Olga Reznichenko
Spring 2018, brushing their teeth under a sky full of stars, and a predilection for Moondog are the things that brought these four musicians from Leipzig, London, Bolzano and Bern together. They sit around the campfire in the Dolomites, toasting marshmallows and telling stories of their childhood—of punk, italo-pop and baroque music. These days, each of them has earned their place in the sticker album of European jazz. At the Jazzwerkstatt 22, the band will feature the great Olga Reznichenko.
