Konsi Bigband (Concert for families)

15:30 – Turnhalle

Concert for families in cooperation with bee-flat

The Berner Conservatory (“Konsi”) is only twenty stone’s throw from PROGR. It was established in 1858 with the goal of “animating the musical sensibility of our youth, namely by training capable amateurs to play in orchestras.” Somethings seems to have gone terribly wrong, though, because the 19 young people in the Konsi Bigband are anything but amateurs. During the lockdown, these shooting stars of yesterday, tomorrow and the day after joined cause with the Youth Symphony Orchestra and a grab-bag of celebrities, by remote-recording an album with so much energy that the Duracell bunny could hardly keep up. At the Jazzwerkstatt they are supported by the instruments and compositions of Maxine Troglauer, Tara Sarter and Benedikt Reising. Who will be basking in whose glory? Tune in to find out.

Sebastian Dubach (as), Seraina Schär (as), Moë Sahl (ts), Julian Wegmüller (ts), Benedikt Reising (bs), Tara Sarter (guest as), Thierry Tribelhorn (tp), Tilman Schäfer (tp), Vinzent Grandjean (tp), Tim Moser (tp), Pascal Moser (tb), Cyril Inäbnit (tb), Maxine Troglauer (tb), Tamino Schatzmann (btb), Linda Messerli (p), Manuel Sidler (g), Till Santschi (b), Tobias Scherrer (b) Luca Tobia (dr), Kesivan Naidoo (guest dr), Matthias Wenger (cond)

Sainkho Namtchylak
Body On Stage

20:00 – Turnhalle

Life is a circus. 66 years ago, Sainkho was born in a small Siberian gold mining town near the Mongolian border. Her remarkable artistic career began with Siberian folklore and has ended up touching on every conceivable kind of singing. Her technique ranges from khoomei (the throat and overtone singing of her native Tuva) to dizzying expansions of her range, from the lowest to the highest possible vocal registers. She creates music for film and theater, is at ease with free improvisation, sings in shamanistic and Buddhist rituals, and works in such diverse fields as electronic music, concert dance, world music and jazz. Sainkho Namtchylak has found cult status, and rightly so. “Body on Stage” offers an invitation to enter her unique world.

Dimitri Howald & the Amnis Band Extended

21:15 – Turnhalle

Psychedelic road trip mixtape jazz. Working on the production of a film score led to the creation of band project: music that sounds like looking through a lens. It makes us want to either close our eyes and sink into our armchair, or to throw up our arms dancing around the bonfire (or some combination of both). The band will be pulling out all the stops for the concert at the Jazzwerkstatt, by increasing their size to an orchestral grandeur. The music from the albums “Industrial Plants,” “Amnis Alsace” as well as new, unreleased material will be performed. Epic moments are assured.

Dimitri Howald (g/voc/comp), Sebastian Lötscher (vio), Nao Rohr (vla/voc), Cégiu (cello/voc), Stefan Schischkanov (g/voc/synth), Olga Reznichenko (p/keys), Antonio Schiavano (b), Giulin Stäubli (dr)
